McDONALDS

November 2, 2020.

Normally, we don't often eat at fast food restaurants, and it had probably been several years since we'd stopped at a McDonald's. But there's one near us and we were hungry, craving a break from the healthy, well-prepared meals we'd been getting from the University Catering Service.

So we entered the drive-though lane and ordered a Big Mac for me and a Quarter Pounder for my husband. He also added a strawberry cream pie. I was pleasantly surprised at the efficiency and ecology of the experience. The food was tasty, too.

After ordering our food at the microphone, we advanced to the window where a credit card reader was extended to within reach of the driver. He inserted our card, punched OK, and retrieved the card. No one inside the restaurant touched it. Then we were instructed to park in a parking spot across the driveway. We waited there only a few minutes until a wait person, wearing rubber gloves, handed us a paper bag with our food inside.

When we got home, we unloaded the bag. The Big Mac was nicely cradled in a corrugated cardboard box decorated with a big graphic that said Big Mac. The Quarter Pounder came the same way with its own graphic. The strawberry cheese cake was in its own cardboard box, too. There were a few paper napkins, but for a change, no plastic. Yay for McDonalds. We'll buy take-out there again.
