ART ON THE PORCH

April 12, 2020, Sunday

We missed our normal Holy Week and Easter church services, but our pastors did a good job of putting together Zoom services. We had quite a large "attendance" this morning. The downside is poor audio quality for the music; this for a congregation that's used to very good music. An upside, likely to be exploited by Pastor B., is the possibility for lots of images.

Since we can't go to concerts these days, we've all heard about the people in Italy and in other places who live in high-rise apartmentns, and who stand on their balconies and sing together. We can't go to museums and galleries, either. So I've decided to offer Art on the Porch. The first "exhibit" is pictured below: eggs on our front door. I had talked about the idea with my sister, Diana, in Texas. She has an ideal porch, situated almost like a stage on a corner lot. So she's made a display, too: eggs on the railing.

It will be an interesting challenge to come up with displays every two weeks or so, that are reasonably weather proof and made of found materials that have no intrinsic value. I'm not going out of my way to promote the idea --- I'd rather be making art, not publicizing it. And not everyone has a suitable porch, but we'll see what happens.
