ZOOMING

March 19, 2020, Thursday

We're all sheltering in place, so we Zoomed our Bible study class this morning. One of our members who had experience with the app as a long-distance teacher, set it up and the remaining four of us logged in and had a wonderful discussion. Our church service this coming Sunday will be Zoomed.

Zoom, the video conferencing app, has been around for almost ten years, but has been used mostly by industries and businesses. Now it's become to the go-to app for any group of people who normally meet face-to-face, but are now isolated by the coronavirus. More and more businesses, churches, organizations, and just groups of people who want to stay in touch are Zooming.

Not all of us are computer experts, but we found Zoom easy to learn. At the end of our session, we thought of the reasons we might continue to meet this way after the epidemic is over: no one needs to drive to a meeting place, less pollution, less traffic, available to anyone no matter how far away they are. We tried the white board today to list the readings we'd talk about and we'll learn more about the other features of the app as we go along.

This mode of communication may be one of the positive outcomes of the plague of 2020.
